Summary: “Guys.” Maja looked between Pete and Patrick. “I think we have a problem.”
“No.” Patrick shook his head, determined. “Repeat with me, Maja. Everything is perfectly fine.”
“We really have a problem.” Maja bit on her lower lip, actually a bit scared by Patrick’s glare. - Set one month after the epilogue of Vampire hunting is the world’s oldest profession (And I, dear Madame, am a professional).

“Let’s just calm down, okay?” Patrick gripped Tom’s shoulder and pulled him back, slightly surprised when the vampire resisted for a few seconds.
“What did I do?” Bryce asked, looking at Patrick, then at William. “Why is Mikey acting like that?”
“Your blood,” Gabe explained with a sigh. “Werewolf blood is like a drug for vampires, it has nasty side effects.”
“Oh God.” Bryce covered his mouth with a hand. “I had no idea, he didn’t tell me that.”
“Let me get inside.” Tom ignored the young werewolf and reached the door. “Patrick.”
“Tom, no.” Patrick shook his head, while Bryce slowly moved aside, looking at the ground. “It’s too dangerous.”
“I can deal with this.” Tom turned to shoot another furious glare in Bryce’s direction. “I won’t leave him alone in there.”
“Is there any way to convince you?” William addressed him a worried look, and Tom shook his head.
Patrick hesitated just a few seconds, then eventually gave in. “Fine.”
“I’ll come with you,” Bryce said with an unsure glance at Tom. “It’s my fault if he’s in that cell.”
“Exactly.” Tom looked at him with a mix of hatred and anger. “You already did enough.”
Bryce took a step back at that, and Patrick handed Tom the key of the cell. “I’ll put someone down the corridor, just in case.”
“Okay.” Tom nodded and quickly opened the door.
“Tom,” William called, taking a step towards him. “Be careful.” He saw the surprise in Tom’s gaze and bit on his lower lip. “Please.”
Tom let a little smile curve his lips and nodded, then disappeared inside the cell and the heavy door closed again.
“Let’s go upstairs.” Patrick sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “I’ll ask Bob to come downstairs to keep an eye on the cell.”
William nodded and felt Gabe’s hand in his, squeezing reassuringly. Bryce followed Patrick without a word and glanced one last time at the cell before they walked around the corner.
~~
Two days later (One day left before the attack)
Mikey jerked awake on the hard floor of the cell and immediately sat up, looking around.
“Are you back to yourself?” Tom asked with a flat tone from across the room.
“Yeah,” Mikey muttered, his voice a little hoarse. “I think so.”
“Good.” Tom stood from his seat on the floor and headed for the door.
“You’ve been here the whole time.” It wasn’t a question, so Tom didn’t answer, he just stopped and looked at his Sire. Then suddenly Mikey’s expression changed, like he’d remembered something. “Oh fuck, did I really tell you those things?”
“What things?” Tom asked with a bitter smile. “That I was nothing more than a toy, that if you could you’d go back and just kill me?”
“Tom, I didn’t mean them.” Mikey stood quickly, and the younger vampire could see the self-loathing and shame in his eyes. “I didn’t mean a single word, I swear.”
Tom was a little taken aback by those words and the desperation in Mikey’s voice, but he told himself it was just a post-withdrawal consequence. “Weird, because I recall you saying the same fucking things in the library a week ago.”
Mikey looked away at that, and Tom resumed walking towards the door. “I’m sorry.” Tom froze at those words, not sure he’d heard right. “Tom, for fuck’s sake, look at me.”
Tom turned and looked at Mikey in the eye. “What?”
“You know I’m not the kind of guy who says this stuff out loud, but I-- I’m sorry.” Mikey looked away as soon as he saw the surprise in Tom’s gaze.
“You’d better be.” The younger vampire took a few steps towards him, his face serious. “What game are you playing? Are you fucking trying to kill yourself again?”
“I don’t know.” Mikey shook his head, swallowing around a knot in his throat.
“Self-destruction isn’t going to make you feel better.” Tom gripped Mikey’s chin with his hand. “Where the fuck is my Sire? Where the fuck is the fierce, dangerous, arrogant vampire I met years ago?”
“He died,” Mikey replied and Tom moved his hand away.
“And we brought him back.” Tom’s expression finally softened and Mikey relaxed a bit too. “But I’m not so sure he cares that much about being back.”
“I just have to find the right reason to stay in this world,” Mikey admitted, looking away.
“Maybe you don’t have to look too far,” Tom whispered with a little smile. Mikey took a deep breath at those words, ready to answer, but he suddenly felt dizzy and had to lean against the wall. “You need to feed. Let’s go.” Tom unchained him quickly and put one of Mikey’s arms on his shoulders.
By the time they got upstairs, Mikey was shaking and barely walked. Without a word, Tom walked them past Mikey and Bryce’s room and entered his own, closing the door quickly. He helped Mikey to sit on the bed with his back against the headboard and immediately opened the nightstand drawer, taking a bottle.
“I’d give you mine,” Tom whispered as he sat down next to him, handing the blood. “But I’m still formally mad at you.”
Mikey chuckled and drank avidly from the bottle, finishing it quickly. “What can I do to fix that?”
“Tell me the truth.” Tom looked at him in the eye, expectant.
“About what?” Mikey put the bottle on the nightstand, then turned to look at him again.
“You know.” Tom glared, then moved his gaze to the side, chuckling. “God, I feel so stupid.”
“Tom,” Mikey called softly, waiting for the boy to turn again. When he did, the older vampire leaned in and kissed him briefly. “I care about you.”
“What about Bryce?” Tom whispered, keeping his eyes closed.
“I don’t know,” Mikey admitted and immediately felt the other vampire withdraw.
“Fine.” Tom stood from the bed and reached the door. “Then I’m formally mad at you until you make a fucking decision.” With that he walked outside and slammed the door.
~~
One day later
“Is everyone ready?” Pete looked around, eyeing most of his clan armed with the pendants and powders Butch, Greta, Jack, Maja and Sisky had prepared during the previous four days. “Let’s go kick some asses.”
Everyone looked tense, but they nodded anyway and headed for the door. The air outside was warm, the sky was dark and without a trace of stars. Pete didn’t take it as a good sign. There were a few lights in the garden, and even from that distance the vampire could clearly see Hayley standing out of the gate.
When they reached the witch, she looked at the group with an arched eyebrow. “I guess you chose the hard way.”
“Looks so.” Pete planted his sword in the ground determined. “Unless you want to admit your defeat now.”
“I don’t think so.” Hayley gestured to someone behind her and the first raw of demons ran towards the gate, trying to take it down. Butch threw something at their feet and they all jumped back, yelling, as a thick black cloud surrounded them.
When the smoke disappeared, Hayley took a step forward. “Is this all you could come up with?”
“Don’t worry, we have more resources than you think.” Bianca walked near the gate as well, smirking.
“I can’t wait to see them.” Hayley tilted her head to the side and gestured the demons to attack again.
When they complied, the gate shook violently, and Pete nodded in Butch’s direction. Another wave of black smoke surrounded them, while Maja and Greta worked to repair the cracks in the field.
“We can go on the whole night, Wentz, we don’t have to run when the sun comes up,” Hayley said as soon as the cloud disappeared and the demons attacked again. “And sooner or later your stash of magic tricks will be over.”
“Where the fuck is he?” Bianca muttered to herself, worried.
“You sure you called the right person?” Gabe asked softly, while both he and William stood next to her.
“I called the only one who can actually help us.” Bianca addressed him a little smile. “He was kind of surprised to hear from me.”
“Who is it?” Pete frowned, not sure if he was supposed to feel relieved or desperate.
“You’ll see.” Bianca looked ahead and kept smirking, while William shook his head, confused.
“Wentz,” Hayley said with an exasperated sigh. “Why the hell are you doing this? You know this is gonna be a better town once I’m done.”
“Maybe,” Pete admitted with a determined glare. “But I’m not willing to kill all those people.”
“Fine. You had your last chance.” Hayley’s eyes moved to Jeremy and she nodded. When the boy gestured the demons to attack, three rows of demons move and the gate burst open.
“Positions!” Pete yelled as he took his sword and started to fight back the demons.
The group created a wall between the creatures and the house, while Maja, Jack and Greta stood behind as the last line of defense, using the potions to stop the demons that managed to pass through.
Bryce, who had been ordered to wait inside, quickly retrieved a sword and ran towards the group quickly. Vicky and Bob addressed him curious glances but when he managed to hit a demon square in the chest, they shrugged and kept fighting.
Gabe found himself in a quiet spot of the attack and looked at the others. Billie Joe was facing three demons on his own and looked wounded, so Gabe immediately reached him and took care of two of the demons.
“Thanks.” Billie Joe addressed him a quick smile, then resumed fighting, while Gabe saw Bob fall on the ground a few feet away.
“Vampire down!” Gabe yelled as he tried to reach Bob quickly, but the demon moved faster and grabbed Bob’s sword. Vicky tried to stop him and she found herself flying back, then the demon sank the blade in Bob’s chest without hesitation. “No!”
Gabe hit the demon, but Bob turned to dust under his eyes, and Keltie threw herself at the creature who killed him, managing to hit him several times before he kicked her back, sending her a few feet towards the door.
“We lost a man,” Gabe informed Pete, reaching his side.
“Who?” Pete asked without looking around, but his tone was worried.
“Bob,” Gabe announced, then turned to another demon.
“Shit,” Pete whispered, glancing at the spot where Bob’s ashes lied on the ground.
Tom saw them talk briefly and reached Keltie, helping her to get up. “You okay?”
“Yeah, I’ll be fine.” Keltie addressed him a thankful glance and resumed fighting despite her bleeding arm.
Tom nodded and stretched his neck, eyeing Mikey on the opposite side of the group, but something else caught his attention. A demon disarmed Bryce and grabbed him, then used his strength to throw him a few feet in the air. Mikey saw that too and immediately ran towards the werewolf, but a demon stopped him. “Bryce!”
Without hesitation Tom grew his wings and flew in Bryce’s direction, catching him as he was falling back down towards the ground. A demon reached them and hit Tom in the back with his powers, causing him to yell in pain. When he managed to land near the house, Tom put Bryce on the ground, cursing.
“What the fuck are you doing out here?” Tom growled as the pain in his back spread quickly.
“Trying to be helpful,” Bryce replied with equal hostility.
“Get inside and don’t get yourself killed,” Tom just replied, shoving him towards the main door. Bryce looked surprised and seemed to realize Tom had probably saved his life, but before he could say anything, the vampire was already going back to the fight.
“Tom, are you okay?” Mikey asked as he watched the boy limp and flinch in pain.
“I will be,” Tom growled, moving away when Mikey tried to touch his shoulder. “Go back there.”
Mikey didn’t have the time to answer because two demons attacked them and Tom yelled as he was pinned to the ground and one of his wings broke due to the force of the impact.
“How many are you willing to lose, Wentz?” Hayley walked towards the vampire, Jeremy standing at her right, while Josh and the other boy, Zac, attacked Patrick.
“Hayley Williams,” a voice called from behind her and she turned abruptly. “I suggest you collect your buddies and get out of here before someone gets hurt for real.”
“Who the hell are you?” Hayley took something from her pocket.
“I wouldn’t do that,” the guy suggested with a smirk, then moved his hand quickly and the little bottle in Hayley’s hand exploded. A redhead girl and another man joined him, and Pete’s expression turned from worried to incredulous.
“Run!” Hayley ordered as she realized who was standing in front of her. “Run, run, run.” The demons complied immediately and just seconds later there were only Hayley and Jeremy left. “It’s not over!” she yelled as she jumped in the car and Jeremy drove away as fast as he could.
“Pete Wentz, it’s been a while.” The newly arrived guy walked towards Pete, smirking. “Missed us?”
“Who are they?” William asked with an awed expression.
“This, dollface, is the Council.” Gabe chuckled when William’s eyes widened in surprise.
~
They carried the injured people inside, and Billie Joe collected Bob’s ashes, while the guy who had scared Hayley away worked on the gate to rebuild the fields. Once everyone had been bandaged and put safely in bed, they all gathered in the library.
“How’s the situation?” Pete asked Jon with a worried frown.
“Alex has a bad contusion, but he’ll be okay in a few days, Keltie has a broken arm, Billie Joe broke two ribs, and we gave Tom something for the demon poison, but he’s weak and it’ll take a couple of days for his wing to heal,” Jon reported as Spencer, Ryan and Sisky walked in. “Butch didn’t let me treat him.”
“Shut up.” Butch glared at the boy, holding his forearm. “I’m fine.”
“No, you’re not.” Bianca entered with a first aid kit. “And if you don’t want to go see the doctor, the doctor comes to see you.” Butch rolled his eyes and resisted when she pulled his injured arm. Eventually he gave in and Pete shook his head, incredulous.
“So, you’re the Council.” William looked at the three of them, a bit skeptical. “Mind to introduce us, Pete?”
“Guys, this is Brian Molko.” Pete pointed at the guy who had rebuilt the magical field. “He’s a vampire and a wizard. Always theatrical and crazy as fuck.”
“Are you complaining?” the boy next to Brian asked with a glare.
“That’s Matt Bellamy, always friendly as the plague with vampires.” Pete arched an eyebrow, skeptical “Do I need to say he’s a werewolf?”
“I’m curious to hear what you’re going to say about me.” The redhead girl grinned, eyeing Pete first, then Bianca.
“Oh, she’s Ashlee, my Sire.” Pete shrugged and gestured vaguely towards her, gaining a few shocked looks from the others. “And she’s kind of a bitch, sometimes.”
“I missed you too, flea.” Ashlee smiled at Pete, surprising both him and Patrick.
“Why aren’t you cursing at me?” Pete narrowed his eyes, suspicious.
“Things change,” Matt replied for her, but his gaze didn’t soften.
“We recognize you kicked some serious ass when you stopped the Way clan.” Brian nodded and sat on one of the couches, eyeing Mikey. “Well, most part of it.”
“I’m not intentioned to rebuild a clan, if that’s what you’re thinking.” Mikey glared at the other vampire.
“Good.” Brian’s smile widened. “Anyway, you did a good job.”
“We did a great job,” William corrected him with an arched eyebrow. “The job you were supposed to do.”
“And you are?” Matt looked at William from head to toe, perplexed.
“William Beckett,” Gabe replied for him, looking directly at Matt. “My Childe and my future mate.”
“I miss the old times when kids had respect for us.” Matt chuckled, shaking his head.
“I miss the old times when you earned that respect,” Pete retorted, standing right in front of them.
“You know, this is the weirdest ‘Thank you’ I’ve ever heard.” Brian rested his feet on the coffee table and Patrick glared at him.
“Oh, we are thankful. We really really are.” Patrick walked there and pushed Brian’s feet away from the wooden surface, then rested his hands on the back of the couch, looming over him. “But if we’re in this situation, it’s just because you didn’t do your job.”
“Well, it’s hard to do something, when there’s no one left who actually listens to us.” Ashlee arched an eyebrow, looking at Patrick.
“Then maybe you should retire and leave the job to someone else,” Bianca suggested as she poured a few drops of antiseptic on Butch’s wounds.
“It’s what we’re gonna do as soon as we solve this little crisis,” Brian announced as Patrick straightened.
“Little crisis?” Butch asked, talking to them for the first time since they had arrived. “The end of human kind is a little crisis?”
“Wrong choice of words,” Brian admitted with a shrug, then his gaze stopped on a very pale Spencer. “Are you okay, kid?”
Everyone turned to look at him and Patrick smiled a little. “I think he’s just a little shocked to see you,” he said with a little nod towards Brian.
“Are you that Brian Molko, the one legends talk about?” Spencer asked with a whisper, not taking his eyes away from him.
“The oldest vampire on the face of Earth, yeah, that’s him.” Matt rolled his eyes, but a faint smirk curved his lips.
“I could pass out right now,” Spencer informed, completely stunned.
“Wow, do I still have fanboys?” Brian smiled wider and walked towards the boy. “I’ll be happy to have a chat with you as soon as you get your brain back.”
“Nice, but now we all need some rest.” Pete shook his head and took a deep breath.
“You lost one of your guys, right?” Ashlee asked with a worried frown, reaching him.
“Bob Bryar, he’s lived here for the past few months, but he wasn’t exactly part of the clan.” Patrick sighed, looking conflicted. “He was going to stick around until he felt ready to leave.”
“I’m sorry he didn’t make it.” Ashlee looked sincere and Pete let her pull him in a brief hug.
“Let’s just make sure he’s gonna be the only one,” Pete said as soon as he withdrew.
~~
One day later
As soon as Tom opened his eyes, he noticed Mikey lying next to him on the bed. He was forced to sleep on his stomach because his wing had to heal before he could make it disappear, so Mikey’s face was directly in front of his.
“What are you doing here?” Tom asked sleepily as he sat up.
“Why did you save him?” Mikey sat up as well, not looking away from Tom’s eyes.
“Can we not talk about him, please?” The younger vampire closed his eyes, exhaling slowly.
“You got injured.” Mikey shook his head and shifted closed. “You could have died.”
“Isn’t that what you did for Patrick?” Tom spat out before he could stop himself.
“You’re not me.” Mikey put a hand on Tom’s shoulder, gripping it forcefully.
“So now I’m not you.” Tom chuckled, opening his eyes. “But when it’s me, saying that you’re not Pete, that we’re not gonna end like you and him, then no, I’m wrong.” He got out of Mikey’s grasp and stood from the bed. “You’re a fucking hypocrite.”
“We already had this conversation.” Mikey’s jaw clenched and he looked away.
“That’s exactly the point,” Tom almost yelled, angry. “Right now, I’m where you were three centuries ago with Pete, and Bryce looks just like Patrick.”
“Bryce will never mean to me what Patrick means to Pete,” Mikey admitted, standing as well. “I tried, but it’s-- it just doesn’t feel right.”
“I don’t need you to tell me you don’t love him.” Tom faced Mikey, flinching when he accidentally moved his injured wing. “I fucking know it.”
“I’m not in love with you either.” Mikey brought his hand to Tom’s shoulder and this time the touch was delicate, careful.
“I know,” Tom chocked out, trying to keep his voice from shaking. “I’m just asking you to give us a chance instead of forcing yourself into a relationship you’ll never want.”
“You’re an assuming little bitch,” Mikey whispered with a soft smirk. “What the hell tells you I’m ever gonna be in love with you?”
“Nothing,” Tom admitted, but the knot in his throat eased considerably. “But it’s worth a try.”
“Are you really in love with me?” Mikey shook his head, unbelieving.
“Now you are an assuming little bitch.” Tom smiled and leaned in the touch when Mikey moved the hand to his cheek. “I never said I was in love with you.”
“I don’t need you to.” Mikey smirked as he leaned forwards and kissed him. It lasted just a few seconds, then he withdrew with a worried frown. “C’mon, it’s time to feed.”
“Oh, now you’re all caring and cuddly?” Tom smirked, but sat down on the bed, feeling slightly dizzy.
“Shut the fuck up and drink.” Mikey rolled the sleeve of his shirt and offered his wrist. At Tom’s surprised look, he shrugged. “No feeding sex this time, sorry, I need to make sure you stop before you kill me.”
“You never--” Tom looked at him in the eye, unsure. “You never let me feed on you before.”
“Consider this my answer.” Mikey rolled his eyes and sighed.
“I want to hear it,” Tom whispered against Mikey’s arm, taking the wrist in his hand to direct it towards his mouth. He licked the sensitive skin, teasing it with the tip of his tongue and saw Mikey shiver.
“Tom,” Mikey warned, but didn’t move his hand away. After a few seconds he gave in with a sigh. “Fine, I’m gonna be your boyfriend and we’re gonna hold hands and do whatever shit cute boyfriends do.”
“Bastard.” Tom chuckled, but Mikey could see the relief in his eyes as he sank his fangs in Mikey’s wrist.
~~
A/N: So. Apparently Bianca called the right guy for the job.
Finally the Council appears and yes, I totally put both Brian Molko and Matt Bellamy in it. LOL AND Ashlee. Now, I hope this was a surprise. LOL
Unfortunately they didn’t get there in time to save Bob and trust me, it was hard to kill him like this. T_T
The Mikey-Tom-Bryce is at a relevant turning point and I hope it helps to understand why Tom is such a bitch to Bryce. He knows Mikey’s trying to be someone he’s not and he knows he’s going through stuff he shouldn't be facing alone, like the grief for Gerard’s death. Stuff Bryce can’t really help him with.
There’s something else about Tom to find out, and that the color of his wings. You’ll find out about it in next chapter.
Going back to the Council, Spencer is a complete fanboy for Brian, as you might have noticed. And this might create trouble.
Okay, I think I didn’t forget anything, let me know what you think about this new chapter.
See you on Wednesday for the third part of the Peterick prequel. ;)
